Thanks everyone who responded to an earlier posting regarding what makes you connect with a song and make you want to sing it. Some great thoughts there!
I have another question for you: When you go to church, what engages you, pulls you in and gets you involved in worshipping yourself? Comfortable environment, seating, lighting, sound, staging, props, worship leader/band, preacher, video/multimedia, etc, etc.????

God's Word engages me...when I hear it I cannot help but be moved to glorify Him.
I find that I am no more likely to engage in worship if the music is good or the lights are spectacular or if the FOH guy is doing a good job. In fact some of my most intense times of worship have been in a little room with fluro lights, a very amateur band and a terrible sound system...but for some reason God was there...maybe because they had invited Him.
What is more engaging than God Himself?
That's awesome Annette!
honest worship, not a song and dance, but hearfelt expression. doesn't matter what the lights etc are doing, if its not authentic then it can appear as just hype.
dynamics, light and shade, musical colour, reflection, intimacy, sensitivity....
and i 100% agree with annette, God's Word. good solid teaching of the word of God. the word is very powerful, it will more than stand on its own 2 feet, and people need it, i need it, straight and true.
hehe. this question always leads to a big debate/argument...
But it's certainly a good question Mark.
I do have a view on this but i aint getting involved..
I'm very curious Mark as to how you perceive things from the stage when your leading worship.. Surely you must noticed trends with when the crowd are the most passionate or the least passionate.
Interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.
luv ya

A sense of community. I went this "gathering", and there were plastic seats, bad lighting, simple stage, bad sound/speakers (woha!), no props, simple powerpoint media presentation, simple band setup ... but heck what engaged me was "passionate" worship in a unified sense. from those on stage. and from those within the "audience" - heart-felt worship. everyone worshipping the Lord. for someone on the "outside", I was engaged... and was led by the peoples heart-felt desire to give praise to the Lord. ppl were who they were. some danced. some were kneeling. some just stood in awe. but you couldnt help but feel they all loved the Lord and were not distracted by anything else. I was inspired and drawn into worshipping HIM.....
